MLB Tour: Turner Field

After a nice couple of days watching games and driving through Florida, we take our RV north to Atlanta Georgia and Turner Field. Turner Field became the home of the Atlanta Braves in 1997. A cool fact about this stadium is that it was originally built for the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, it was then known as Centennial Olympic Stadium. I am a big fan of the Olympic movement and going to Turner Field just to see the Olympic history would be enough for me. To make this even better, we would be taking in a Braves games. Turner Field is also home to monument dedicated to Hank Aaron's 715th home run, a great part of baseball history.

Why

I chose to do my dream vacation of a tour of the MLB stadiums for a number of reasons. First of all I am a huge baseball fan and have played baseball since I was 6 years old. I developed this love of the sport from my dad, who in turn discovered baseball from his father. Three generations of baseball fans.

It has always been a dream of mine to go see a game at one of the famous baseball parks, such as Wrigley Field or Fenway Park. So why not do a tour of all the baseball parks? Going to a ball game engages all of the senses; whether its the smell of ball park franks, the noise of the ball getting cracked for a home run, or the warmth of the afternoon sun during a midday match up. Not only would the environment of every stadium be different, but baseball is the only sport where the dimensions of every stadium are also different. It would be amazing to experience the sporting culture of the different cities across the United States and discuss baseball with fellow fans, gaining insights and stories from people who have similar interests. The interesting thing about sport is the unpredictability, you could go watch a game countless times and the experience would never be the same.

Not only would seeing all the stadiums be a dream come true for an avid baseball fan, but we would also be driving across a great portion of the US, seeing and discovering places that I never would have. This trip is not only about baseball, but also about connecting with other people and sharing an amazing experience with my Dad and Grandfather.

After all, baseball is America's favourite past time!

Costs

Ticket Costs:

- 3 Tickets for every game equals approximately $2,500.00

(Ticket prices have not been released yet for the upcoming season, and so prices are estimated based on last years figures)

Hotels:

- Theses costs are not necessary as we will be traveling in my Grandfathers RV.

Gas:

- The total distance of the trip is about 17450 km (starting from ottawa and returning home afterwards)

- The puts the charge of gas at about $4760.00

(assuming an average gas price of $3.50/gal, 40gal gas tank, 13km/gal consumption rate)

The expense of gas will be the greatest one of the trip since we are traveling such a far distance

Miscellaneous:

- These expenses include: food, drink and merchandise

- The miscellaneous expenses will be estimated at $2500.00

Total Costs:

= Tickets + Gas + Misc.

= $2500 + 4760 + 2500

= $9 760
